Abstract

953,231. Feeding cartons. JAGENBERG-WERKE A.G. June 16, 1961 [June 18, 1960], No. 21822/61. Heading B8S. A paper carton is withdrawn from a stack of cartons in magazine 2 by gripper 4, and is then reversed by rotating arm 5 so that it is ready to receive liquid from filling nozzle 14 and be discharged by endless belt 13. The upward movement of gripper 4 operates the intermittent rotation of arm 5. Thus, gripper 4 moves upwards towards magazine 2 and as it does so a ratchet carried thereby operates a gear-wheel to cause rotation of arm 5 through 180 degrees. This inverts the previous carton. Then the gripper 4 grips the lowermost carton of magazine 2 and withdraws it downwards, till the carton rests on fixed support 9 and is gripped by arm 5, the downward movement of the rack causing the free wheeling of the gear-wheel without causing rotation of arm 5. When gripper 4 next advances upwards its rack causes rotation of arm 5 clockwise to deposit the carton into a holder 12 pivoted at 20. The carton rests on door 10 which is pivoted at 19 to yield to permit the rotation of arm 5. Holder 12 transports the carton by a pivoting and reciprocating movement on to belt 13 and after being filled by nozzle 14 it is discharged by the belt.
