Abstract
838,424. Packaging wire; containers. CONNOLLYS (BLACKLEY) Ltd. April 24, 1958 [April 25, 1957], No. 13225/57. Classes 66 and 94(1). Wire or the like is packaged in a cylindrical container having concentric cylindrical partitions 4, by coiling it into one compartment until it is filled and then transferring the feed to the next. In one embodiment the wire 7 is fed by a capstan 6 to a flyer 10 the latter being carried on a head 9 rotated by belt and pulley means. The angle of the flyer to the vertical and thus the radius of feed is controlled by lever means 22-24, operation of the lever 24 also varying the speed of the flyer via the gear box 25. In another embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), the container is rotated and the wire fed through a pivoted guide the angle to the vertical of which is variable by solenoids. The solenoids are responsive to a counting device which operates when a desired length of wire has been fed into one compartment, to cause transfer of feed to another. The speed of rotation of the container is correspondingly varied. As a further alternative, probes may be used to detect when a compartment is full.
