837,240. Filling bottles. LEIDSCHE APPARATENFABRIEK N.V. July 29, 1957 [Aug. 6, 1956], No. 24002/57. Class 94(1). [Also in Group XXX] In apparatus for filling small bottles with fluid or fluent solid material, e.g. penicillin powder, the bottles are fed to the filling position 13 by a conveyer belt 2 on which the bottles are arranged in a series 1 between guides 4, 5, and a rotating cam 8 engages the foremost bottle 12 of the series and accelerates it into position 13 while at the same time allowing the remaining bottles to move forwards at a constant speed so that the bottle 12 is separated from the rest sufficiently to allow it to remain in position 13 long enough for filling to be completed, upon which it is displaced by the next bottle 10. The cam 8 has a spiral circumference 9 with a step 11. The step 11 is arranged to accelerate the bottle 12 while the circumference 9 controls the advance of the following bottle 10. A clamping member 16 pivoted at 15 and urged towards a bottle in the filling position by a spring 17 is temporarily withdrawn, so that a bottle can enter the filling position, by a second cam 18 rotating with cam 8 and periodically engaging a roller 19 on member 16. A second clamping member 23 is resiliently mounted opposite the member 16 to co-operate with the latter. As each bottle is displaced from the filling position by a following bottle it is received by a second conveyer belt 20.
