Abstract

953,009. Covers for screws. BRITISH SCREW CO. Ltd. Feb. 23, 1962 [May 12, 1961], No. 17343/61. Heading F2H. A screw-head 11 is surrounded by a cover 12 of plastics material, e.g. rigid material, moulded about the head 11, the cover having an external surface of non-circular form, such as the multipointed form shown, for engagement by a spanner, and a natural or synthetic rubber sealing washer 17 surrounds the screw shank 10 being frictionally held in an annular recess 16 in the cover 12. The head 11 of a selftapping screw may be of non-circular crosssection, as shown, and may have a socket in the top, Fig. 2 (not shown), engaged by the moulded material as a key. A slotted, round-head screw, Fig. 3 (not shown), for use with a nut, may have a cover 12 of the same external form as that shown, the slot serving as a key. The Provisional Specification describes also a screw head with a flange extending out from the shank end of the head, the periphery of the flange having a lip extending downwardly towards the screw point. The cover is externally square and merges into domed skirt covering the flange and lip.
