1489287 Linerless screw cap MACK-WAYNE PLASTICS CO 28 April 1975 [16 Sept 1974] 17618/75 Heading B8T An internally screw threaded cap, preferably of polypropylene, has a resilient annular sleeve depending from a top wall and formed pre-bent to curve outwardly and downwardly from a root portion 34 to an end portion 36 and the cap top wall, radially outwardly of the root portion, is free of projections, such that, on applying the cap to a container, the sleeve engages sealingly with the top surface of the container neck, the sleeve end portion being flexible to accommodate surface irregularities of the neck and the root portion being thickened to prevent the sleeve from passing its elastic limit. Portions 40 and 46 of sleeve surfaces 38 and 44 respectively have circular outlines and portions 42 and 50 have straight outlines. The region 48 immediately adjacent to the undersurface of the top wall is concave and the surface 52 of the end portion is cylindrical. Certain ratios between the dimensions A, B, C, and D are important in determining the flexibility and strength of the sleeve.
