Abstract

952,964. Printing machines; feeding sheets. AGFA A.G. July 25, 1962 [July 29, 1961], No. 28613/62. Addition to 951,897. Headings B6B and B6C. The production of copies from the printing forme of the parent Specification is effected in an automatically operating sheet-fed machine comprising an internally electrically heated rotatable forme cylinder 10 co-operating with an electrically heated roller 60 forming part of a roller train 60, 61, 62 swingable relatively to the cylinder about pivots 52 at each side of the machine. A lever 53 is pivotally mounted on each pivot 52 and carries rotatably mounted therein the associated ends of the rollers 60, 61, 62. Each lever is biased by a spring 54 away from the cylinder and is manually adjustable relative thereto by an engaging screw, cam and handwheel arrangement 56, 57, 59. The rollers or the cylinder may be covered with silicone rubber the coacting cylinder or rollers having a plain steel finish. Sheet-feeding mechanism.-This comprises a locked feed roller 14 moving a copy sheet from a stack 13 to the nip of feed rollers 17, 18 on actuation of a linkage 20, 23, 25 operated by a cam 28 rotatable with the cylinder. A further cam 30, also rotatable with the cylinder, actuates a lever 33 carrying a toothed segment 34 which, simultaneously with a forward feed movement of the locked roller 14, rotates, through cogs 35 and 36, the rollers 17 and 18 in the feed direction. The latter rollers are unidirectional having an appropriate clutch arrangement whilst the roller 14 is free to rotate in its rearward or non-feed movement. Fig. 3 shows a modification in which the roller train is replaced by an adjustable band arrangement comprising a heated roller 60<SP>1</SP>, an unheated roller 71 and a band 70. The cylinder 10 and roller 60 may be heated by gas or oil burners instead of electricity.
