Abstract

952,887. Collapsible motor scooters. ETABLISSEMENT VALERCA. Dec. 22, 1960 [Dec. 29, 1959], No. 44099/60. Headings B7E and B7H. A motor vehicle of the scooter type comprises a front part 1 consisting of a front fork 4 and handle bar 17 detachably connected to a rear chassis 2 which protects the rear wheel 47, the engine 43, the change-speed gear 44 and contains the front part 1 when detached, a pyramidal connecting member 26, 27, 28 with its apex hinged at 22 to the lower part of a frontfork tread 8 and its base 27 in a vertical plane and its lower edge 33 bearing on the chassis near to the centre of gravity G, and a brace 29 which positions the front fork relative to the connector 26, 27, 28. In the front fork steering head 8 (Fig. 5) the handle bar pillar 16 is held unrotatably in a tube 7 on the fork 4 by a notch 18 in its end engaging on a cross-pin 19 in the tube 7. The column 16 may be released from the tube 7 for stowage by releasing a spring plunger 15 but remains attached to the chassis by the cable-loom 58. Release of another spring plunger 56 permits a lug (Fig. 2, not shown) on the connector 26, 27, 28 to be disconnected from an upper cross-bar 55 which joins the two parallel rectangular side-frames 36 (one seen in Fig. 1) of the chassis body so that the lower edge 33 of the connector can be lifted off the lower chassis-crossbar 35 on which it rests. The brace support 30 can be released from the connector-tube 28 by sliding off a clamping ring 32. The fork 4 and head 8 can then be hinged down about the pivot 22 for stowage in the chassis. Resilient bushes 31, 34 and 25 (Fig. 4, not shown) are provided, respectively, under the support 30 under the edge 33 and at the pivot 22. The engine, gear, and rear wheel are carried on a cradle 41, hinged to the frame 36 at 42 and suspended from it by elastic rings 49 at its rear end.
