833,741. Motor cycles; wheel forks; steering. BOTHWELL, P. W. Feb. 7, 1957 [Feb. 7, 1956], No. 3732/56. Classes 79(5), 136(1) and 136(3) The steering mechanism for the single front wheel of a motor vehicle comprises a non-rotating hub 41-42 mounted on a king pin 37 on an axle 35 fixed to a bracket 34 that is pivoted at either end to upper and lower links 30 and 31 that in turn are pivoted to the vehicle frame; the hub 41-42 can be pivoted about the king pin by steering rods (not shown) attached to the usual handlebars. A double set of the links 30 and 31 may be used as in Fig. 4; they may be cranked inwards if necessary and may either trail or lead the front member of the vehicle frame. The hub is formed in two parts 41 and 42 connected by bolts 43 for ease of assembly and has tapering horizontal slots 44 at either end so that it can pivot on the king pin as in Fig. 6. A wheel hub 46 and wheel 16 can rotate on bearing races 45 on the hub 41-42. The castor angle of the king pin may be adjustable by setting segment plates 55 at the ends of the axle 35 to the frame at an approriate hole 56. The wheel supporting brackets may be formed in one piece, as in Figs. 8 and 11 (not shown).
