Abstract

1518432 Scooters; motor vehicles R C SELWYN 6 May 1976 18646/76 Headings B7E and B7H A scooter comprises a platform 1 for carrying a standing passenger, an electric motor 5 drivingly connected to a wheel of the scooter, and a member 3 carrying handlebars 8 which is pivoted relative to the platform 1 from a working position, in which it is upright and substantially perpendicular to the platform as shown in full lines in Fig. 1, to a position in which it is substantially parallel to the platform as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1, to facilitate carrying of the scooter by a user. In the illustrated embodiment the member 3 carries a front wheel 4 of the scooter and is pivoted for steering purposes on an inverted U-shape member, 10 which itself is pivoted at 12 on the platform 1. The member 10 is pivoted to arms 15 themselves pivoted to a second inverted U-shape member 14 pivoted to the platform at 13. When the member 14 is pushed forwardly as shown in Fig. 1 the members 3 and 10 are locked in an upright position but when the member 14 is pivoted rearwardly collapse of the members 3 and 10 to the dotted line position occurs. The motor 5 is mounted on the member 3 and connected to the front wheel 4 by gears 6, a switch 9 on the handlebars 8 serving to connect different numbers of cells of a battery 7 to the motor 5 to vary the speed of the motor.
