Abstract
An anode especially useful in nickel and chromium plating and giving good "throwing power" is made by electroplating titanium with platinum over part of the surface area of titanium. The anode so made may be in the form of a titanium rod 4 plated with platinum in the areas 5, 51, and is mounted with the platinum areas opposite recessed <PICT:0952172/C3/1> objects 2, 21 to be plated with nickel or chromium, and gripped in a holder 1. A high current density is available in the recessed areas. The platinum plating process including pre-etching may be of the kind described in Specification 952,171 using a mask of tape, wax, or paint over the areas of titanium not being plated.
