Abstract

[Also in Division B8] A lifting device consists of one or more separate fingers each comprising a channel section member 10 adapted to be secured to an article of furniture and carrying double wedge shaped cams 11, 12 provided with dwells 44, a pair of interconnected bogies A, B each supported on wheels 22, 23 and carrying a cam engaging roller 24, and a detachable lever 38 which moves the bogies relative to the member 10 thereby causing the cams to ride up the rollers 24 to elevate a load resting on member 10. Two or more fingers can be operated simultaneously by a single #-shaped handle 43 which is pivoted at 40 in fulcrum blocks 41 detachably attached to slots 14 at either end of each member 10, and which is provided with levers 38 each extending through a slot 13 in the associated member 10. In a modification (not shown), when member 10 is lowered, its flanges engage the ground and render the device immobile, or, alternatively the device can have wheel brakes or sprags operable automatically on release of the handle 43.
