Abstract

An apparatus suitable for spraying finely divided particles of wet or dry compositions on to printed sheets so that they are not in close contact when delivered to a pile 29 comprises two endless chains 10 provided with sheet grippers 26, a spray chamber 24 encompassing a portion of the run of the chains, a device 50 for spraying the compositions, and suction means 43 communicating with the chamber 24 opposite the device 50 for withdrawing air and excess spray from the chamber and causing air to be drawn into the chamber through openings at both ends, one of the openings, Fig. 3 (not shown), being adjustable by rack and pinion means to control the air intake. The chains are provided with curved guard elements 22 and 23 and the sheets are supported during travel through the chamber by members 40. The spraying device 50 includes a container 56 and etched roller 57 and a bar 58 carrying a high positive potential so that the partices discharged by the roller 57 have a positive electrostatic charge. The device 50 may be provided with an air current to aid the particle distribution. A suction device 60 retards and controls sheets released by the grippers 26.
