949,997. Window frame and sash assemblies; hinges. A. HILLAND. Aug. 15, 1961 [Sept. 15, 1960], No. 29411/61. Headings E1J, E1R and E2F. In a window frame and sash assembly, the hollow rectangular sash 2 of hollow extended sections e.g. of plastics, has marginal rebates 24, 25, to receive panes 26 and adjacent each rebate marginal grooves 27 to receive frictionally removable pane-securing inserts 28, 29 as shown, the sash also having a lip 22 extending from the inwardly-facing edges of its upper and lower cross-members and of its non-hinged side member, the lips accommodating resilient sealing elements 23 to engage the frame 1, and the rectangular frame 1 is constituted by similar extended sections having on the inwardly-facing surface and on the outwardly-facing surface of its sill piece, marginal grooves 11, 14 Fig. 1, 37 Fig. 2, to receive frictionally inner and outer water-deflecting inserts 15, 12, there being also around the frame 1 an upstanding lip 16 Fig. 1, 39 Fig. 2, extending from the innermost outwardly-facing edge and accommodating therein resilient sealing elements 17, 40, to engage the sash members 19, 45. The frame has water drainage apertures, 6, 7, 9. The hinge pin 43, passing through knuckles such as 44 on the frame and sash, has a horizontal arm 43 resting on a stop 42 from which it may be removed by rotation of the arm for removal of the pin when the sash is to be dismantled from the frame.
