Abstract
In a process for the production of iron-silicon sheet in which the crystal orientation is such that a majority of the cube faces are within 5 degrees of parallelism with the surfaces of the sheet, a part at least of the final cold rolling is carried out using rolls giving a profilometer reading not greater than 10 micro inches, and the sheet is then given a secondary recrystallization treatment, e.g. in the range 1900-2300 DEG F.. The alloy may contain 2.5-4% silicon and less than 0.005% carbon, and the secondary recrystallization may be carried out in an atmosphere of non-oxidizing gas containing 20-250 p.p.m. of a polar compound selected from the oxides of carbon and sulphur and hydrogen sulphide. The final crystal structure may also be such that at least 70% of the cube edges are aligned within 20 degrees of the rolling direction. Specification 942,399 is referred to.
