Abstract

Silicon iron of (100) [001] orientation is produced by starting with (110) [001] strip containing 2.5-4.0% silicon, cold rolling to reduce by 55-90%, recrystallizing at 1200-2200 DEG F., cold rolling with a reduction of 50-80%, and recrystallizing at 1900-2300 DEG F. Strand annealing may be performed for the first recrystallization but box annealing is preferred. The secondary recrystallization is a box anneal using a protective atmosphere of hydrogen, helium, or argon containing a very small amount of a highly polar compound such as hydrogen sulphide, sulphur dioxide, an oxide of carbon, or a mixture of these.
