Abstract

949,004. Valves. BRENT INDUSTRIES PROPRIETARY Ltd. May 16, 1962 [May 26, 1961], No. 18917/62. Heading F2V. A fluid pressure-reducing valve comprises a hollow piston member 9, Fig. 2, mounted in a casing 5 for axial movement. The piston member is slidable on an inlet 14 and is sealed with respect to the casing by a piston-like seal 35 or a diaphragm to form a pressure chamber 37 communicating with an outlet 40. The hollow piston has an outlet 15d to the pressure chamber and carries a valve closure 27 which cooperates with a valve member 50, which may be a loose ball loaded by a spring 51 to abut a rod 47 or may be secured to the rod. The piston 9 is loaded by a spring 11 in a valveopening direction and the fluid in the pressure chamber 37 acts on the seal 35 or diaphragm in a closing direction. Rods 65 may be provided to limit the movement of the piston. In a modification, the ball 50 is replaced by a disc valve carried by the rod or by an extension of the inlet tube 14. Fig. 8 shows a modified form of closure member 27<SP>11</SP> which consists of the resilient member 27<SP>11</SP> clamped between plates 78 providing a yielding closure.
