Abstract
948,910. Periscopes. BARR & STROUD Ltd. Oct. 27, 1956,: No. 32814/56. Heading G2J. To obviate movement of the transmitted image by the bending of a periscope or other instrument having a telescope system within a casing 6, the telescope system is carried by a rigid carrier 13 mounted within the casing 6 and is non-inverting and has a magnification of unity. The carrier 6 is supported on two sets of domed feet 14 and located by a pin 17. The telescope system may comprise two telescopes 7, 11, 8 and 9, 12, 10 Fig. 2 or one telescope 39, 41, 40 and a prism 42, Fig. 5, but must overall be non-inverting and have a magnification of unity. In a further modification, Fig. 6, the entrance prism 23 is mounted on the carrier so that as the casing bends it is rocked by wires 30 secured to fixed abutments 31. In this example the telescope system on the rigid carrier comprises lenses 39, 41, 40, and prism 50.
