Abstract

The interior surfaces of flexible containers made of polyvinyl chloride or polyvinyl acetate, or of tubular stock from which such containers are to be made, are coated with vinylidene chloride homopolymer or copolymer. The vinylidene chloride may be copolymerized with acrylonitrile or vinylchloride, and the homopolymer may be mixed with a plasticizer. Part of the inner surface of the containers, or of the stock, may be left uncoated to permit subsequent sealing by welding the uncoated parts together, e.g. by applying heat. The coatings may be applied as solutions in volatile solvents, e.g. by introducing the solution into a rapidly rotating chamber through a tube, avoiding the formation of spray, and leaving parts of the walls uncoated; or by introducing the solution with the container from below, through a tube connected to a reservoir, which is raised until all the interior surface of the container, except a narrow annular band adjacent its upper end, is coated. Tubular stock may be coated in a succession of annular zones. The coated parts may be differently coloured from the remainder.
