Abstract
560,344. Cartridges. SHUFFLEBOTHAM, J. S., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Oct. 28, 1941, Nos. 13862/41 and 16972/42. [Class 9 (i)] The cap chamber 4, which has an external diameter slightly greater than that of the cavity 2 in the thermoplastic cartridge case 1, is heated to a temperature greater than the softening temperature of the thermoplastic material, and then pushed into the cavity ; the chamber is allowed to cool, and the anvil and primer are then inserted. The difference in diameters may be 0.010 to 0.020 inches, and the temperature of the cap chamber may be 30-120‹ C. higher than the said softening temperature. The thermoplastic material may be plasticised cellulose-acetate composition, in which case the temperature of the cap chamber may be 190‹ C.
