Abstract
946,817. Building frameworks. HILLS (WEST BROMWICH) Ltd. Jan. 20, 1960 [Oct. 20, 1958; Jan. 20, 1959], Nos. 33427/58 and 9131/59. Headings E1K and E1S. The framework of a structure, more particularly on ground subject to subsidence, comprises braces 7 each connected between two stanchions, each end of each brace being connected to the respective stanchion by a crosshead 8 which is accommodated within and is displaceable relatively to the stanchion, the brace passing through the crosshead and being secured by a nut 13 and the crosshead having curved ends 11 engaging the inside of the stanchion and transverse bars 9 fixed in the stanchion. A spring 14 may be interposed between the nut 13 and the crosshead. Another nut 13a may clamp the other side of the crosshead. In a modification, Fig. 5A, the crosshead 8a engages the stanchion by trunnions 15 adapted to engage in jaws 16 fixed in the stanchion. The stanchion is composed of four angle irons Fig. 5A or two angle irons 1 Fig. 4A and two flat bars 2 mounted on a footplate 3 Fig. 4 pinned by a bolt 5 to the foundations.
