Abstract
946,044. Impact pulverizers. ENTOLETER Inc. March 17, 1960 [March 17, 1959], No. 9453/60. Heading B2A. Apparatus for centrifugally impacting flowable material to break and reduce the individual particles thereof compirses a pair of rotors 22, 38 mounted in a casing 20 suspended from a main frame 12, Fig. 1, the rotors being driven, preferably in opposite directions, by means of motors 30, 46 supported respectively by the frame 12 and by a subframe 16, and the rotors being rotatably supported in upper and lower bearing casings 26, 42 which are connected to the frames 12, 16 respectively by means of pairs of torque braces 140, 155. The bearing casing 26 is connected to the frame 12 by means of a supporting plate 134. The casing 20 comprises an upper inlet casing 54, Fig. 3, having feed shoots 56, 58, a lower air inlet casing 68 having air inlet shoots 70, 72, and a volute central housing 66 having a tangential outlet 78. The casings 54, 68 are interchangeable with each other and the housing 66 is reversible. The casing 68 is detachable and is slidably mounted on the frame 12 so as to allow the rotor 38 and its associated parts to be removed from the apparatus. For this purpose, the casing 68 is pivotally carried by a hinge bracket 222, Fig. 1, which can be raised or lowered on a post 14 by means of a jack screw 246 threaded in a fixed bracket 240 and adapted to bear against the base 234 of the bracket 222. The housing 66 is provided on its periphery with a removable or pivotally-mounted access door 188, Fig. 1. The rotors 22, 38 are provided with concentric rows of cylindrical pins 84, 86, 88, 90 and 92. The rotor 22 comprises a hub 62, radial vanes 80 and a ring portion 82 the inner edge of which co-operates with a ring 94 secured to a plate 64 of the inlet casing 54. The rotors may take other forms according to the nature of the material to be treated. For example, the impactor pins on the upper rotor may consist of radially disposed solid blocks each having a concave radial groove formed in its leading face and each having a wear-resisting insert covering its outer end. In this case, the impactor pins on the lower rotor are preferably of square or polygonal cross-section. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 846,683.
