922,194. Sink and float apparatus. PREPARATION INDUSTRIELLE DES COMBUSTIBLES. Aug. 17, 1959 [Dec. 31, 1958], No. 28086/59. Class 117. In a sink and float apparatus the sinks are discharged by a wheel 2 with an inclined axis, which is mounted on a hub 4 rotatably mounted on a non-rotatable spindle 7, the lower end of the spindle being secured at 8 to the apparatus frame 9 and the upper end being above the plane of rotation of the wheel. As shown in Fig. 1, the hub 4 is connected to the wheel 2 by arms 3 via surface 6 and flange 5 and two bearings 7a and 7b between the hub and the spindle are located above the plane of rotation of the wheel. The wheel 2 may include radial scrapers 30, the lowermost edges of which may be connected by a perforated plate 32 or the scrapers may slide along the base of the bath 1. The wheel may be driven by a toothed pinion 11 at the periphery of the wheel or through the hub 4 by means of reduction gearing (Fig. 2, not shown). In a further embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown), a two-wash box assembly including two discharge wheels mounted on the same spindle is operated so that the sinks from the first wash box are discharged by the first wheel into the second wash box for further separation, the final sinks being discharged by the second wheel.
