Abstract

579,908. Vegetable &c. peelers. HOBART MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd., and HETHERINGTON, H. R. May 18, 1944, No. 9576. [Class 28 (ii)] A potato &c. peeler is provided with a strainer receptacle 5 in the base 2 to trap the peelings and allow the water to run away through a drain 6, and a motor 8 also in the base and separated from the container by the strainer housing 4. The motor drives through gearing 10, 11 and a vertical shaft 12. The turntable 13 which is coated with abrasive 14. The peeling water passes through an annular gap 23 and out through the exit 27 into the receptacle 5. The hopper 1 is horizontally rotatable to bring its discharge opening 35 to face the potato exit 62 and can be clamped in this position by handle 38. The bearings are protected from washings by a housing 41. The strainer receptacle 5 can be removed through a door 29 in the base or may be attached to the door. This door may be made transparent. The vertical shaft 12 has a hard ball 45 bearing on a peg 46 to take the thrust. Its other bearings consist of graphite impregnated sleeves 50 and have oil channels 51.
