Abstract

766,227. Peeling vegetables &c. KAY, W. E., and KAY, A. W. March 21, 1955, No. 8125/55. Class 28(2) Potatoes &c. in a hopper 9 on the side of the container 1 are charged into the container by raising a slide or a hinged door 14. Rotating a water turbine 2 then rotates a bottom disc 5 surfaced by a flat abrasive whereby the potatoes are churned round against the abrasive surface of a conical or bowl shaped stationary surround 6. The disc 5 and the surround 6 have inturned flange edges over which replacement sheets of abrasive are pressed into holding position. Discharge of the peeled potatoes is obtained by swinging aside the hopper about its hinges (19 Fig. 4 not shown) and then swinging up or sliding up the door 14 to allow the potatoes to fall out through the aperture 10.
