[Class 28 (ii)] In a potato or like peeling-machine, the rotating bottom and/or the container walls are perforated in such manner that the perforations are of curvilinear section, are flush with the peeling surfaces, and are of increased crosssectional area remote from the peeling edges of the perforations. The perforations may be of truncated cone form, or formed as curved slots. The rotary bottom disc 14 is of relatively flexible material and is distorted into undulatory form, when secured by the screw 15, by the spacing-members 16 which are of different lengths. The rigid base plate 13 is carried by a hub 12 secured by a pin 31 to a shaft 8 driven by bevel wheels 10, 11 from a hand-wheel 9 or other source of power. The plate 13 carries vanes 28 which keep the space beneath the plate clear of peelings, &c. which are discharged through the outlet 6. The vegetable container 4 is held by radial spacers within an outer casing 1 having an inturned flange 2 under which a circular spray pipe 19 is disposed. The casing 1 is supported on a base pan 5 and is secured thereto by two clamps 25 fastened by wing nuts 26. The discharge door is hinged on a vertical pivot and is secured in position by a latch 21, the swinging part of the casing carrying, by spacers 23, a section of the inner container. The perforations in the disc 14 may, in size, be equal to or smaller than the perforations in the container 4. The wall of the container may be of undulatory form.
