Abstract
874,389. Pneumatic separation. BAHCO A. B. March 9, 1960 [March 12, 1959], No. 8316/60. Class 117 Granular material fed through a funnel 35 flows over a cone 21 and on to a rotary bladed disc 26 driven by an electric motor 23, and is thrown into a cylindrical separating chamber 8 to which an air stream is fed via a longitudinally arranged inlet 2. The course fraction passes to a section 3 whereas the finer material is carried with the air stream through an outlet 6. The bottom wall of the separating chamber comprises a disc 9 which is rotated by the exhausting air acting upon a turbine wheel 11, 12 secured to the disc and supported by a bearing 14. The disc 26 gives a tangential velocity to the material which is approximately equal to that of the air stream at the disc periphery. A damper 41 adjusts the width of the air inlet, and the effective height of the separating chamber is adjusted by raising or lowering its upper wall comprised by the disc 26. The disc, cone and funnel assembly, with casing 17, 18, is raised or lowered by a crank 29<SP>1</SP> which, via a chain and sprocket drive 28, 29, rotates spindles 30 threaded in nuts 33 fixed to tubes 34 secured to brackets 17<SP>1</SP>.
