Abstract

272,111. Kreutzberg, O. A. Nov. 5, 1926, [Convention date]. Pneumatic separating.-A pulverizer comprises two precipitation chambers, one containing the crushing-elements and being associated with means for admitting an horizontal current of air to the chamber and among and over the crushing- elements, and including a passage-way for conducting air and particles carried in suspension to the second chamber which is associated with means for admitting a horizontal current of air laden with particles to the chamber. The second chamber may be arranged above the first chamber and communicate therewith through an annular passage-way. The table 19, Fig. 2, mounted on a vertical shaft 18 supported in bearings 16, 17, 20, has a conically-dished portion 24, and the axles 31 of the crushing- rollers 30 are mounted in pivoted brackets 32 with devices 35 to press the rollers against the paths 25. The coarser particles entrained by the air current are deposited in the chamber 68 above the table and fall on to the table for further crushing by the rollers. An upwardlyflared shell 69 is secured to the casing 67, and a conical hopper 71 is disposed axially of the shell 69, the space 73 between forming a flaring outlet from the chamber 68. An annular series of adjustable vanes 78 is arranged between the top edge of the hopper 71 and the cover 76 of a shell 75 superposed on the shell 69. Each vane 78, Figs. 10 and 11, has upper and lower pivots 81, 82 fitting in rings 83, 84, and the pivots 82 carry crank-arms 85 connected by links 86 to a ring 87 which forms the rim of a turntable 88. The cross-members 89 of the turntable are connected to a hub portion 90 engaging a pivot-support 93 carried by cross-members 94 from the hopper 71. To adjust the angularity of the vanes, the turntable is turned by means of a vertical hand-shaft 96 connected by a chain or cord 100 to a pair of adjustable spokes 89. The passage 73 has preferably a substantially constant area of flow from end to end, this area being smaller than the cross-sectional area of the chamber 68 but greater than the total inlet area of the inlet passages. In operation, the particles deposited in the chamber 80 return by the outlet 'i4 at the bottom of the hopper 71 to the table 19 for further grinding, the fine particles passing with the air through the outlet 77 which is connected to an exhaust fan discharging to a cyclone separator.
