Abstract

943,530. Extruding. H. J. ALTWICKER. July 19, 1962, No. 27727/62. Heading B3P. In the hot extrusion of aluminium or its alloys the die orifice 9 and the surface of the extruded product 11 are supplied with nitrogen and/or argon. This is stated to prevent contamination of the die surface and cool the extruded product thereby reducing oxidation. The gas is supplied through tubes 12, 13 with flattened discharge ends. Examples are given for the extrusion of aluminium and various aluminium alloys.
