Abstract

974,959. Extruding. BIRMINGHAM SMALL ARMS CO. Ltd. Sept. 13, 1963 [Sept. 15, 1962], No. 35252/62. Heading B3P. A metal billet 5 is extruded through a die 4 by placing the billet in the die mouth 4, pressurizing a fluid 1 surrounding the billet and applying heat to the billet. The fluid 1 may be water, oil or silicones, preferably containing molybdenum disulphide in suspension to act as a lubricant, or a gas such as nitrogen. Pressure is applied by a ram 6 or by an external pump. An induction heating coil 8 is enclosed in a heatinsulating sleeve 10; alternatively the sleeve may be disposed between the coil and the billet.
