Abstract

1377118 Extruding VEREINIGTE METALL - WERKE RANSHOFEN-BERNDORF AG 1 Dec 1972 [10 Dec 1971] 55550/72 Heading B3P [Also in Division G3] In a method of extruding metal the temperature of the extruded metal 3 is measured by a thermocouple composed of the extrusion die and the extruded metal, the measurement being used to control the speed of the extrusion ram 10 and hence the extrusion speed. The extruded metal 3 is contacted by a carbon block 5 mounted in a support 6 of the same metal as the extruded metal. The starting billet may be conically heated before extrusion, i.e. either the leading end is cooled or the trailing end heated. The extruded metal may be aluminium.
