Abstract
941,416. Valves. H. VAILLANT, [trading as JOH VAILLANT KOMM. GES.]. Feb. 8, 1961 [Feb. 11, 1960 (2)], No. 4658/61. Heading F2V. In a thermo-electric gas burner ignition safety device, button 21<1> cannot be depressed when knob 18 is rotated to "off" position since button fork 22, Fig. 2, abuts blocking sleeve fork 19. On rotating knob 18 to an intermediate " ignition " position, the button may be depressed because forks 19, 22 inter slide. Between the fork arms 22 and rotating therewith is a locking bolt 23, Fig. 5, which, in the ignition position, has a catch part 24 transverse to a receiving slot 26 in the end of push rod 11 so that depression of button 21<1> opens gas inlet valve 7 via rods 11, 11<11>, bolt 23, 24 and fork 22, permitting gas to pass to the pilot burner. At the same time, rod 27 threaded in bolt 23 and pivoted at 28<1> to lever 28 pivoted at 29, sets armature 33 connected to the end of lever 28 against electromagnet 35 where it is held when the magnet is energized by a pilot burner heated thermocouple, so that button 21<1> may be released but the magnet exerting a small force on a long lever arm holds open valve 7 loaded by strong spring 8 acting on a short lever arm. If knob 18 is rotated fully to " On " position, a knob cam 17 depresses a member 15 abutting flanges 20 carried by sleeve 12 surrounding rod 11 to open main gas burner valve 9, main burner passage 6 also containing a valve 39 opened in response to water flow. If the pilot burner is extinguished, after a short interval the magnet releases the lever, members 27, 23, push rod 11 and valve 7 closes under spring 8. By rotating knob 18 to " Off " when the magnet holds the lever and the pilot burner is alight, the catch 24 leaves the end abutment on rod 11 and enters slot 26 as rod 11 and valve 7 move to closed position.
