Abstract

1,241,183. Burner controls. ROBERTSHAW CONTROLS CO. 25 Sept., 1968 [26 Sept., 1967], No. 45602/68. Heading F4T. In a diverter valve assembly 10 with fuel outlets 16 and 18 for a bake burner 17 and a broil burner 19, when a control 12 is turned from " bake " to " boil," in addition to fuel being supplied to an inlet 15 a pilot burner 21 is ignited and a flame sensor 66 thereat causes a lever 38 to pivot at 46, 47 on a plate 48 in the valve housing 10 from its rest position, Fig. 1, when a valve 25, 26 supplies fuel to the bake burner, and a similar valve 27, 28 for the broil burner is shut, through a position with both valves shut and then to a position where only valve 27, 28 is open, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown). Each valve closure member 26, 28 is urged to close by a spring 36, 37 respectively, acting between the housing and a shoulder end of the stem 30 of each closure member. The end of the lever 38 remote from the pivot is bifurcated and engages the stems 30 of the closure members so that when the lever pivots there is lost motion the closure of one valve and the opening of the other. A spring 58 between tangs on the lever 38 and the plate 48 biases the lever to its rest position and is disposed to give an " over dead centre" operation, wherein the valves close slowly but open with a snap action. The effective pivotal point of the lever is adjusted by a screw 55 in the housing bearing on a tang 53 of plate 48. The flame sensor is a fluid containing bulb serving when heated to displace a wall 67 carrying a ball 69 which bears on a flat end portion 41 of the lever 38 to the right of the pivot 46, 47 as seen in Fig. 1. The valve members are guided in the housing by guide stems 34 having free ball ends 33 to allow rocking and permit seating of the valve member.
