Abstract

926,629. Valves. HARPER-WYMAN CO. Jan. 26, 1960 [July 21, 1959 (2)], No. 2833/60. Class 135. A rotary disc gas valve 28, Fig. 5, is turned by fingers 114 when a clutch 108 on an operating stem 93 engages the fingers. The stem is prevented from turning by a stem flat 142, Fig. 6, engaging a housing flat 140 but may be pressed inwards against spring 132, up to the limit of tongue 150 engaging stem shoulder 152, to disengage the flats and allow rotation of the valve until tongue 150 rides out of stem slot 154 whereby the stem may be pressed further inwards to disengage the clutch, preventing further opening of valve 28 and allowing stem rotation to turn screw 48, Fig. 11, to adjust the fulcrum 44 of a bimetal lever through which a gas valve 24 is operated by a thermal element 50, 52. The tongue may be replaced by a spring- loaded plunger 206 which engages flat 144 to prevent disengagement of the clutch and allows clutch disengagement on depressing the stem when stem rotation permits the plunger to clear the flat. The plunger may be depressed beneath the flat to enable screw 48 to be rotated in an opposite direction without turning valve 28. The plunger may be replaced by a leaf-spring.
