Abstract

347,518. Thermally-actuated valves. BRILL, A. P., 712, St. James Street, Pittsburg, U.S.A., and RUDD MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd., Buckingham Avenue Trading Estate, Slough. May 30, 1930, No. 16787. [Class 135.] An automatic safety cut-off device is operated initially by a cam or equivalent device and is maintained open against the action of a spring load by a heat-responsive element which also restores the cam to its inoperative position. In the form shown in the Figure the bimetallic bow A which is arranged in proximity to a pilot burner Z<1> bears against an adjustable abutment H<1> on a rod H which passes through gas-tight glands h in a tube a and engages a recess B<2> in a valve B. The valve B which controls the supply to the pilot burner is loaded by a spring C and has a spindle B<1> which passes to the outside of the casing where it is fitted with a cam E having an actuating handle E<1> and is adapted to co-operate with the end F of the casing. The valve b controlling the supply to the main burner is slidably mounted on the spindle B<1> and is opened against the action of a spring C<1> by projections b<3> on the rod B<1> when the thermal element takes control. In a modification the thermal element actuates a single valve controlling the supply to the main burner.
