Abstract
The sodium-ammonium salt of Caro's acid (NaNH4)(HSO5)2, with or without admixed sodium and ammonium sulphates and/or persulphates, in solid crystalline form, may be prepared by reacting a mixture of Caro's acid with sodium and ammonium hydroxides, carbonates, or bicarbonates, and evaporating the solution thus obtained to dryness at low temperature, if necessary after separating out the precipitated sulphates and bisulphates. Alternatively a mixture of oleum with hydrogen peroxide and ammonium persulphate or sodium persulphate may be employed in place of the Caro's acid. The reaction may be carried out at 20-70 DEG C., and the evaporation below 55 DEG C. and at reduced pressure. The hydrogen peroxide, ammonium persulphate, sodium persulphate, and the alkaline ammonium and sodium compounds may be used in the form of aqueous, preferably concentrated, solutions.
