Abstract
In the production of lithium hypochlorite, lithium chloride or a lithium hypochlorite composition containing lithium chloride and sodium or potassium hypochlorite are reacted in aqueous solution. By proper adjustment of temperature and concentration a large proportion of sodium or potassium chloride is precipitated and may be filtered from the concentrated solution when cool. Removal of further amounts of chloride may be made after progressive vacuum evaporation of and crystallisation from the filtrate. The resulting solution, rich in lithium hypochlorite, may be evaporated to dryness to yield lithium hypochlorite products free from lithium chloride and containing sodium or potassium chloride. The temperatures at which the reaction and separation are carried out are between 10 and 60 DEG C, e.g., 10 DEG -45 DEG C. Examples are given and Specification 581,949 is referred to.
