940,254. Processing and disposal of radioactive waste. CONTINENTAL OIL CO. Nov. 14, 1961 [Feb. 24, 1961], No. 40762/61. Addition to 926, 822. Drawings to Specification. Heading G6R. Liquid radioactive waste is treated with a solidifiable material other than that disclosed in the parent Specification, injected into an artificial fracture in an impermeable rock formation, and then sealed in position by injecting the solidifiable material free from radioactive waste. The solidifiable material may be Portland or other cement. A slurry stream of solidifiable material may be first pumped in and then the radioactive waste introduced into the stream; in this method the solidifiable material may be that disclosed in the parent Specification. The treated waste may solidify at normal or elevated temperature and the waste may be obtained from nuclear reactors or from the processing of spent fuel elements. Specification 926, 821 also is referred to.
