Abstract

Radio-active liquid waste in polythene containers is disposed of by feeding the containers in succession to a cooler where the liquid is frozen and the containers are embrittled, the containers then entering a crusher, the crushed fragments being reheated and washed with acid and water, the liquid and solid wastes being separated from each other and discharged. These operations are all performed by apparatus disposed in a shielded enclosure having a viewing window, Figs. 1, 2 (not shown).
