Abstract
939,925. Flowmeters. G. NEUHAUS. Feb. 12, 1960 [Feb. 16, 1959], No. 5166/60. Class 69 (1). In apparatus for measuring flow through a main pipe 1 by measuring the flow through a conduit 7 having a by-pass orifice 9 the flow through which is proportioned by a flow divider system 10, a second conduit 8 is provided in parallel with the conduit 7 and has an orifice 11 of the same cross-section for checking that the flow divider system is operating correctly. In normal operation a pipe 13 from the flow-divider is coupled to the flow meter 14. During checking the second conduit 8 is coupled through a conduit 15 to a second flow meter 14<SP>1</SP> by opening a flow-adjusting valve 12. A branch connection 16 to the downstream conduit 5 of the flow divider 10 is opened by a stop-cock 17, the conduit 5 being closed to the main pipe 1 by a cock 18. With this arrangement and with the flow divider operating correctly the pressure drop through both orifices 9, 11 is the same, so that the flow-meters should give the same readings over a range of settings of the valve 12.
