Abstract

783,432. Fluid-actuated valves. LEEDS METER CO., Ltd. Oct. 31, 1955 [Sept. 9, 1954], No. 26096/54. Class 135. Valve mechanism for use with a combination meter for measuring liquid flow comprises a main valve member 8 hinged at 7 and connected by a link 11 and lever 12 with a by-pass valve member 4 of self-closing butterfly type. The inlet 5 to the valve housing leads from a main meter whilst an inlet 3 controlled by the valve member 4 leads from a low-range meter. The lever 12 carries a weight 14 which normally causes the main valve member 8 to be seated and the butterfly valve member 4 to be held open by an abutment 16. When the rate of liquid flow exceeds a certain amount the pressure difference across the main valve member overcomes the loading of the lever 12. Due to the connection of the main valve member to the lever 12 being near the pivot 13 and that of the butterfly valve member 4 remote from the pivot the valve member 4 will close rapidly in relation to movement of the main valve member.
