A flow meter for measuring the quantity of fluid flowing through a main pipe 1 by measuring a partial flow of that fluid comprises a main throttle 3 in the main pipe 1 and a flow divider provided with two chambers 8, 9 connected to the main pipe, one on each side of the main throttle by throttle-equipped branch lines 4, 5 and separated by a membrane 10 having means for controlling a valve 13, 14 connected with a gas meter 19, the chamber 8 being connected with the main pipe 1 upstream of the main throttle 3 and the chamber 9 having an adjustable outlet port 31 which port is closed when the valve 13, 14 opens and conversely. The outlet port 31 has a conical portion 32 which merges into a screw-threaded bore 33 of increased diameter. A transverse bore branches off from the bore 33 and can be closed to a greater or lesser extent by a bolt 34. This arrangement provided a throttle for the outlet port 31 which can be precision adjusted by hand to neutralize the suction normally obtaining at the valve 13, 14. The line 18 between the valve 13, 14 and the gas meter 19 is tapped and connected to a second valve 46, 47 a throttle 20 being provided between this valve and the tapping. The pressure built up by the throttle 20 causes the valve 46, 47 to close the outlet port 31.
