Abstract

1342994 Fluid regulation CLARKE CHAPMAN-JOHN THOMPSON Ltd 24 July 1972 [21 Aug 1971] 39304/71 Heading G3H The rates of the gas or liquid flows through passages or pipes fed in parallel, e.g. in an evaporator, economiser or burner fuel pipe, are equalised by providing at least one fluidic device, e.g. a venturi nozzle 46, 48 or vortex amplifier, within each pipe 38 and establishing a common connection between control ports 52 of the pipes. Thus a variation from the mean flow rate in a pipe will cause extraction or injection of fluid from or into the pipe via the control port to decrease or increase the resistance to flow and thereby restore the flow rate towards its mean value. In the embodiment shown each pipe 38 has two venturi nozzles 46, 48 both provided with a respective control port 52 and communicating via openings 54 with a closed chamber 60 forming the common connection between all control ports. During mean flow rates fluid is extracted from the pipe via the upstream control port and injected into the pipe through the downstream control port. The venturi nozzles may be of different types. An additional variable pressure may be applied to the common connection to induce a common control effect.
