Abstract

939,526. Washing machines. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Jan. 30, 1961 [Feb. 1, 1960], No. 3428/61. Class 138 (2). Delicate articles or small loads can be washed in a small substantially imperforate basket 33 mounted on an agitator 9 for movement therewith, liquid being supplied to the basket 33 through an outlet 29. In the example shown in Fig. 1 liquid overflows through perforations 34 and is returned to the basket by a pump 26 through a perforated filter pan 30. The basket 33 and filter pan 30 may both be removable. The vanes of the agitator pass through openings in the basket 33 which may be provided with additional vanes 36. In a modification (not shown) the pumping means is in the agitator itself. Fig. 2 shows a modification in which liquid overflows from the basket 33 through grooves 88 during washing and is discharged through spaces 93 during spin drying.
