547,197. Washing machines. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Feb. 26, 1941, No. 2600. Convention date, Feb. 29, 1940. [Class 138 (ii)] In a washing machine in which an agitator 35 is oscillated for washing clothes in a tub 4, and the tub 4 is rotated for centrifugally drying the clothes, by a shaft 42 operated as by the mechanism described in Specification 452,402, the liquid in the tub is circulated in the general direction of the arrows 47 during the washing operation and the liquid containing the greater proportion of lint &c. flows into a trough 44 on the agitator hub 36 thence through openings 45, 46 to the casing 1 from which it is pumped by a pump 17 up a pipe 21 and discharged through oppositely-directed nozzles 23 on to an annular filter 14 draining into a trough 29 leading to channels 32 communicating with the tub through openings 33, 34 below the surface of the liquid therein. When the tub is rotated for drying the clothes the liquid is discharged through openings 27a, the pump being run during the initial part of the operation for flushing the filter. The tub 4 is fixed to a flanged sleeve 9 on the hub 5 by a snap ring 10. The agitator hub 36 terminates in a perforated disc 37 slightly spaced from the bottom of the tub.
