Abstract

938,631. Welding by fusion. MUREX WELDING PROCESSES Ltd. Sept. 3, 1962 [Sept. 22, 1961], No. 34080/61. Addition to 846,347. Class 83 (4). An electrode according to the parent Specification is modified by the provision of an external sheath of thin metal. The sheath has a butt, lapped or gapped longitudinal joint, the latter facilitating inspection of the flux. The electrode may be used for open or submerged arc welding or for gas, e.g. inert or carbon dioxide, shielded arc welding. The flux and/or the core wires winding wire or sheath may contain alloying ingredients. The electrodes may be used for welding mild steel, low or high alloy steel, e.g. 18/8 stainless steel, or hard facing. Specified flux constituents are rutile, calcium carbonate, calcium fluoride, sodium or potassium silicate, sodium alginate, iron carbon, chromium, ferro-alloys and carbon containing alloys. A low hydrogen lime fluoride flux or a rutile based flux may be used.
