Abstract

938,463. Counterbalancing tower cranes. S.G.M.E. USINES MOSER S.A. June 19, 1962 [June 19, 1961], No. 23600/62. Class 78 (4). As the jib 5, Fig. 1, of a tower crane is moved longitudinally across the top of a tower 3 in guides 4 counterweights 12 are moved in unison in the opposite direction to maintain the balance. A motor 6, Fig. 2, drives drums 18 which move the weight through cables 19 and also a drum 8 which moves the jib through a cable 9. With drums constructed as shown, the movement of the weights 12 is non-linear and a bigger movement is produced when the jib and weights are retracted close to the tower, this being useful in certain applications. If all three drums are cylindrical the moment of the weights is linear and perfect balance can be effected over the whole range of movement.
