938,270. Gas checks; cartridge-operated tools. SOC. CIVILE D'ETUDE DE PROCEDES DE SCELLEMENT. Nov. 25, 1960 [Jan. 5, 1960], No. 40700/60. Classes 9 (1) and 119. A missile for cartridge-operated tools comprises a bolt p and a gas check 1 of non-rigid material, preferably plastics. The gas-check has a cylindrical front portion 1<SP>1</SP> which slidingly fits the barrel of the tool and a rearwardly flared frusto-conical portion 1<SP>2</SP>. The head t of the bolt is shown encased in the portion 1<SP>2</SP> and has a diameter somewhat larger than that of the band so that slight deformation of the rim of the head t as well as of portion 1<SP>2</SP> occurs before the missile is propelled from the tool. A second embodiment employs a gas-check which encases the bolt as in the first, and has a rearwardlyflared portion, but the rear wall is recessed as in Specification 876,745. In a third embodiment an axial bore is formed in the front face of the gas - check into which a bolt with a screwthreaded rim may be fitted. A barrel with a conical bearing surface C<SP>2</SP> is shown at Fig. 7 so that the missile may be inserted from the rear through chamber C<SP>1</SP> prior to the insertion of a cartridge.
