Abstract
938,082. Centrifugal pumps. WATEROUS CO. June 27, 1960, No. 22508/60. Class 110 (1). The invention relates to a centrifugal pump of the type in which impellers may selectively operate in series or in parallel with each other. Two impellers 21, 22 on a shaft 20, driven from gearing 47, are separated by a partition wall 15. The discharge volute of the first impeller 21 is connected by a passage 66 to the housing 70 of a transfer valve 69 which is rotatable by a lever to connect the passage 66 with either a passage 72 leading to the intake port 65 of the second impeller to connect the impellers in series or a second passage 73 leading to the discharge passage from the second impeller to connect the impellers in parallel. When the valve is in the first position the force of the fluid in the passage 72 swings a flap valve 83 (see Fig. 5) into a position where it closes the passage between the inlet chamber of the second impeller and the intake manifold 74. In the second position of the valve fluid passes from the manifold into the intakes of both impellers.
