Abstract
937,927. Altering physical structure by forging. KAISER ALUMINUM & CHEMICAL CORPORATION. Aug. 23, 1962, No. 32480/62. Class 83 (4). A method of making an article of aluminium alloy comprises forging a heat treatable aluminium alloy to the shape required, solution heat treating and quenching, substantially reducing or eliminating the residual stresses by cold forging to a small reduction in thickness and ageing. During stress relieving the workpiece F is cold forged between upper and lower tools 5, 7 and the final thickness is fixed by gauging blocks 13. Examples are given.
