[Also in Group XXIX] A copying device for a lathe, milling or shaping machine, flame cutter or the like, comprises a stylus 4, Fig. 1, on a rod 6 and urged against a pattern 1 by a spring 8, the rod moving a member 11, carried thereby, between orifices 12, 13, supplied with pressure-liquid through restrictions 14, to produce a pressure difference on the ends of a valve 15 which then moves to supply liquid to one or other side of a piston 21, causing the device-housing 7 to move to or from the work 2. The housing carries the tool &c. 23, and the rod is supported by diaphragms 9, 10. A hand lever 28 and a solenoid valve 29, energized by pressing a button, are actuable to remove the tool from the work. In a modification, member 11 controls a single orifice communicating with one end of valve 15 which is loaded by a spring or pressure-liquid on its other end. Housing 7 may be fixed and piston 21 operates the tool. The pressures on opposite sides of piston 21 may react on areas of valve 15 to provide feed-back. In another arrangement, member 11, Fig. 4, is held by springs 34, 36, against part 35 of valve 15 and an abutment 37 on rod 6, respectively, whereby movements of valve 15 are fed back to member 11. In yet another arrangement, member 11, Fig. 5, is suspended by a leaf-spring 38 from rod 6 and supported between springs 39, 40 in a yoke 41 fixed to valve 15. Specification 928,802 is referred to.
